Today we will examine how industrial capitalism fundamentally reshaped the physical structure of European cities from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries.

Let us talk about one of the ocean's smallest yet most dangerous creatures, the blue-ringed octopus. Before we dive in, recall our earlier discussion about crab species that produce compounds with analgesic properties.
The blue-ringed octopus is tiny, roughly the size of a golf ball, but it carries enough venom to kill multiple adults. Its venom contains a powerful neurotoxin called tetrodotoxin, which blocks sodium channels in nerve cells.
These channels are essential for transmitting signals between neurons, so when they are blocked, the prey becomes paralyzed almost instantly. In severe cases, paralysis can lead to respiratory failure.
The octopus is immune to its own venom. Certain spiders, such as the funnel-web spider, also produce potent venoms but are immune to their own toxins. Scientists believe this immunity comes from structural variations in sodium channels that prevent the toxin from binding.
Researchers have found that tetrodotoxin, in carefully controlled doses, can serve as an effective painkiller for conditions such as chronic cancer pain that do not respond to conventional treatments.
