Part 2 - Describe something you did when learning a new language
Today, I want to talk about how I learned English at a workshop. I did many things there to improve my English. First, I did many quizzes and reviewed after the quizzes. After I finished a quiz, I knew the things I needed to improve. Through reviewing, I could improve my skills and remember things better. Learning something takes a long time, and it takes repetition. You have to do something many times in order to remember it.
Part 2 - Continued
Secondly, I read a lot of English articles at the workshop. I spent about two hours a day reading IELTS materials. I also did questions and checked them after practice. If I saw something I did not understand, I would ask the teacher for answers and explanations. If I saw new vocabulary, I would write it down and look it up in the dictionary.
In order to improve my speaking skill, I had real conversations with my teacher, just like the IELTS speaking test. We practiced at least once or twice a week, and each time we practiced for one to two hours. My teacher also assigned me some simple questions to practice at home, and I tried to memorize them before I went to sleep. I also did a lot of things to improve my listening skill. I did practice tests, reviewed them, listened to the vocabulary, and tried to memorize how to spell the words.
Part 3 - Group Study
I think studying a language with a group is better because we can support each other and challenge each other. We can also learn from each other because everybody has new and interesting ideas. When I study by myself, I sometimes get bored and lose motivation. But when I study with a group, I can compete with other people, which is more exciting.
Part 3 - Group Work
Another benefit is that group members can divide the work. We can do different parts of an assignment and work together, which can make us more productive. On the other hand, there are also some disadvantages. Each person may only take care of one part of the work, which means they do not get to learn the other parts.
Part 3 - Advantages and Disadvantages of Learning a Language
Learning a new language is very useful because language is power. A language can open up new opportunities in your life. For example, if you can speak English, you can talk to people from many countries because English is an international language. When you travel, you can communicate with local people. If your English is really good, you can also go to a university in another country.
Part 3 - Continued
Another advantage is that you can enjoy more books, movies, and TV shows. If you understand English, you do not have to read subtitles when you watch movies or TV shows. You can also read English novels without waiting for the translated version to come out. However, learning a new language also has disadvantages. It takes a lot of time and effort to master a new language. If you do not use it, you may forget it really quickly.
Part 3 - Technology and Language Learning
Technology has changed language learning a lot. In the past, it was difficult to find a teacher, someone to practice with, or enough materials. Before the Internet, it was also difficult to find English books. However, nowadays, because of the Internet, we have unlimited information in foreign languages. We can watch videos on YouTube, talk with foreigners online, send text messages, or even have voice calls to practice conversational English. AI can also be a great teacher because it is available 24/7. Whenever we want to learn, we can ask AI to explain a word or show us how to use it.
