Describe a teacher who influenced you
I would like to describe a teacher who influenced me a lot. He was my physics teacher, and he was also my uncle. When I was in Grade 8, he taught me physics during the summer holiday and on some weekends. At that time, I learned many things that students usually study in high school. He was not a very special-looking person, but he was very good at explaining difficult ideas. He often used examples and analogies, so I could understand how things actually worked. The most important thing he taught me was that we cannot achieve anything without making an effort. Because of him, I became more interested in physics, and later I got a very good mark in a physics test. This experience gave me a strong sense of achievement, and it also made me want to continue studying physics in the future.
Describe a goal you have for your future study
My future study goal is to become a physicist. I want to study physics at university because it is the subject I am most interested in, and it is also one of the easiest subjects for me to understand. I did not love physics from the very beginning, but around Grade 8, my uncle helped me learn it in detail. He explained the principles clearly and showed me how things worked in real life. After that, physics started to give me a sense of achievement. In the future, I hope I can study physics in another country and do some research in this field. I know it will not be easy, but I think this goal is meaningful to me.
Describe a skill that took you a long time to learn
I would like to describe a cooking skill that took me some time to learn. The skill was making Arabic-style barbecue. I became interested in it because I liked Arabic food, especially barbecue lamb and pancakes. My mother sometimes took me to an Arabic restaurant, and I really liked the food there. Later, I asked an older person in the restaurant to teach me how to make it. He showed me how to control the temperature, how to cook the lamb, how to make the Arabic-style pancake, and how to prepare a special sauce with peanut butter and olive oil. It took me about a month to learn the basics, and I went to the restaurant every week during that period. I am not a master, but now I can cook juicy lamb and wrap it with pancakes at home. This skill gives me a sense of achievement.
Can online courses replace good teachers?
I do not think online courses can replace good teachers completely. Online courses are useful because students can learn at home with a computer or a phone. However, they are usually a one-way communication process. A good teacher can interact with students, encourage them, explain difficult ideas, and give useful feedback. I think online courses may replace some bad teachers, especially teachers who only read PowerPoint slides in class. But a good teacher is different from a video course because a good teacher can understand students' problems and help them build confidence.
