Describe a long-term goal you would like to achieve.
A long-term goal I would like to achieve is to become a geologist, or maybe an earth science scientist in the future. I first became interested in geography when I was in primary school. My geography teacher taught me a lot, and he also took me to a geology museum. After that experience, I started to feel that geography was really interesting. Even after primary school, I still stayed in touch with that teacher, and we sometimes had discussions about geography. I have had this dream for many years. I read geography magazines, visit museums when I can, and try to learn more about earth science. I want to achieve this goal because I am truly interested in geography, and I hope I can do research in this field in the future.
Should parents set goals for children?
I think it depends on the child. If children have good self-control, can think independently, and already have a clear goal, then parents do not need to set goals for them. They can just give advice and support. However, if a child cannot control himself, is not independent, or does not know what he wants to do, then parents should help him set some goals. In that situation, goals can give the child a clearer direction.
What kind of goals are unrealistic?
Some goals are unrealistic because people do not have enough time, money, technology, or experience. For example, sending people to Mars in five years would be very unrealistic. It would have a very high cost, and it would require difficult technology, many scientists, and a lot of experience. If people do not have these resources, the goal cannot be achieved in such a short time.
Why do people set goals?
People set goals because goals can give them a clear direction and encourage them to keep working. Also, when people have a goal, they can make better use of their time. For example, if I want to become a geologist, I will spend more time reading geography books and earth science books. In this way, a goal helps me focus on the things that are important for my future.
Is it better to plan ahead or to be spontaneous?
I think it depends on the task. If the task is very important, such as a school project or a business project, it is better to plan ahead. A plan can help people save time and avoid wasting money. However, if the activity is not very important, people can be more spontaneous. For example, if I am just taking a city walk on the weekend, I do not need a detailed plan. I can just walk around and see what I find.
