IELTS Writing Task 2 advantages/disadvantages class-supported_review_version_not_final_student_draft
Some people believe that young adults should be encouraged to do unpaid community work for a period of time. In my view, this practice can bring more benefits than drawbacks, as long as participation remains voluntary and the programme is properly organized.
The most direct benefit is that people who are in need can receive timely help. For example, some residents may have difficulty paying rent, getting food or dealing with daily problems, and young volunteers can help address these issues. This can also contribute to community harmony and stability, because fewer people will be left without support. For young adults themselves, community work can help them gain a sense of achievement and develop practical transferable skills, such as communication skills, people skills and problem-solving skills.
Admittedly, unpaid work may create some problems. Since young adults spend time and energy without direct payment, they may find it difficult to continue for a long time. Also, if the work only lasts for a short period of time, the people receiving help may feel disappointed when the support suddenly stops. However, these drawbacks can be reduced. Schools or communities can offer credits or social recognition, so volunteers still receive a meaningful return. They can also arrange volunteers in a continuous system, so when one group leaves, another group can take over.
Overall, encouraging young adults to do unpaid community work is more beneficial than harmful, provided that they participate voluntarily and the programme gives them recognition and continuity. In this way, the practice can help the community while also helping young people grow.
