Describe your home
I live in a loft apartment with my parents, my grandparents and my younger brother. The apartment is quite spacious because it has two floors. The part I like the most is the tidiness. My grandparents are really tidy people, so when I come home from boarding school on the weekend, I always find my room, my desk and my bed clean and tidy. I think this makes my home very comfortable. To be honest, I do not really want to change anything about it. I think my home is perfect for me, and I want it to stay this way.
Describe a teacher you like
My favorite teacher is my math teacher from my previous school. He explains things clearly and in great detail. When we worked on difficult math problems, he did not just give us one answer. He taught us different ways and different solutions to the same problem, which made his class interesting and useful. He was also very patient. If some students did not understand, he would explain it again until everyone could follow. I think he is a knowledgeable teacher, and he is one of the reasons why I enjoy mathematics.
Describe a childhood friend
One of my most precious childhood friends is Xiao Wang. I have known him since primary school, and he is still a close friend of mine. He is crazy about basketball. After class, we often went to the school playground together and played basketball. He could shoot and pass the ball skillfully, with great accuracy and precision. What impressed me most was not only his basketball skill, but also his good manners. He spoke softly and respectfully to teachers, classmates and younger kids. He never interrupted others, and he always said thank you and sorry at the right time. Whether we won or lost a game, he stayed calm and polite. That is why I still respect him a lot.
Describe a famous person you want to meet
If I could meet any famous person, I would choose LeBron James. He is one of the greatest basketball players of all time and a truly inspiring role model. On the court, he is a living legend. He is the NBA's all-time leading scorer, he has won multiple championships, and he has dominated the game for more than twenty years. I have watched his games since I was young, and I really admire his talent, work ethic and leadership. What impresses me most is what he does off the court. He built the I Promise School in his hometown to help poor children get free education, meals and college scholarships. If I met him in person, I would love to ask him how he stays motivated after so many years, and how he balances his career, family and charity work. Meeting him would be a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I believe his words would encourage me to work harder and become a better person.
Describe a time you gave someone advice
I would like to talk about a time when I gave advice to my best friend last semester. He was really stressed because he had to prepare for his final exams and join the school basketball team at the same time. He did not know how to balance study and sports, and he even wanted to give up basketball. I told him that he should make a timetable to manage his time better. I advised him to study for two hours after school every day and play basketball only on weekends. I also told him to focus on one thing at a time instead of worrying about everything. I gave him this advice because I used to have the same problem, so I understood how difficult it was. Later, he followed my advice, and it worked really well. He passed his exams and still played basketball on weekends. I felt very happy because my advice helped him solve the problem.
Extra speaking idea: planning and pressure
When we have a big goal, it is easy to get overwhelmed because we do not know where to start. A useful way is to break up a huge goal into small pieces, so each step becomes more manageable. We should not only look at the final outcome. Instead, we should focus on our immediate actions and take one small step at a time. After finishing a few small steps, we can build confidence and get some momentum. Also, when we are stressed, it is helpful to find the right person to talk to. Talking may not solve the whole problem immediately, but it can help us blow off some steam and feel better at that moment.
